Hermitage Residence

Strategic rehab brings back historic character and charm in Ravenswood.

Interior Design: Chicago Common Studio

Architect: En Masse Architecture & Design

General Contractor: Arkwright Construction

Millwork: Hulthen

The aim of this project was to restore the original character of this home. A key focus was the kitchen, where a complete overhaul of the existing layout was undertaken. A new butler's pantry was strategically incorporated to enhance functionality and providing a space to tuck away kitchen clutter. The reimagined kitchen now revolves around a substantial wood island, offering ample prep space and a central gathering point. In the a hall a small closet was repurposed into a discreet secret bar.

The main bathroom also received a complete transformation. The space was reconfigured to accommodate larger vanities and a free-standing soaking tub. To infuse the room with vintage charm, the design incorporated classic subway tiles, evoking a timeless aesthetic. A playful touch is added with a mosaic floor featuring a light blue border that wraps around the room. Unlacquered brass fixtures were selected to patina over time.
